Granny Annexes are becoming a very popular solution for many families who are contemplating moving a relative or close friend into their home, to be close to their nearest and dearest in their time of need and can often leave homes cramped and crowded.
The most ideal and environmentally friendly answer is to build a solid log Granny Flat or annex in your garden. Granny flats and annexes offer a higher degree of independence for relatives than 'living in' the main dwelling. They are still subject to the same rules as any other house extension, which means planning permission and possibly building regulations approval are needed, although, so long as you have a large enough garden and comply with the legislation as listed below there should be no problem as our Granny flats and annexes meet all these regulations.
If you are looking for a Granny Annex or similar type of building, you will find these very high quality buildings very competitively priced, they can either be erected as a static building if the planning authority will permit this or as a transportable mobile granny flat. If you have suitable access to the site the mobile type might be more acceptable to the planning authorities than the static buildings.

Konecta Modular design with round profile log exterior and plaster board interior. It's no always about size, sometimes it's about what works for you and the Pembroke Lodge certainly works for the aging mother who wanted to move closer to her son, but not in the same house and this really worked for both Mum and perhaps more importantly both her son and his wife and children. With one bedroom and open plan lounge/dining room and walk in shower room, we managed to fit everything in, including the kitchen sink. | ||
